Forest elephants (their scientific/fancy name is Loxodonta cyclotis!) live in the rainforests of the Congo Basin of Central Africa, and in West Africa. Much about these forest elephants remains a mystery; scientists are still not sure about how many are left in the wild. Numbers range from 24,000 to 209,000. You may be more familiar with their cousin, the African savannah elephant. Forest elephants are smaller, with more rounded ears and straighter, thinner tusks. Look at the images below.
